The Fort
With a front door leading onto the Tankwa plains and its western side straddling a Swartruggens mountain slope, The Fort literally encompasses the best of both beautiful worlds
This charmingly appointed hideaway for larger groups of up to 10 guests incorporates a separate large pool and entertainment deck with a built-in barbecue and seating area. Aptly named because of its fortress-like outward appearance, the Fort is made from local rocks hewn into shape to form massive walls around an interior which will keep guests in cool luxury even on the hottest of days in summer and cosy and warm in winter.
A large airy open plan dining, lounge and fully equipped kitchen area opens out via a large arched glass-paned door onto an endless view of the Tankwa plains. A raised private swimming pool and deck with wood-fired hot pool is situated a short distance away. The partially covered pool deck incorporates a built-in braai and a large table and chairs. A second built-in braai can be found at the SE facing covered varandah attached to the main house.
The heated pool requires prior notice of intended use since it takes quite a few hours to warm the water the old fashioned way and we need to get the wood-stove going long before our lucky guests arrive.
An open braai pit with surrounding seating is situated on the NE side of the Fort. Parking for up to five vehicles is available next to adjacent shady pepper trees. Out front, a dedicated sandy boules court awaits those wanting to enjoy this quirky and fun outdoor game. Boules are provided.
Note that the maximum capacity at The Fort is 10. No additional people will be allowed as it puts a strain on our infrastructure.
